Joyas de fieltro / Felted jewelry

Hace un tiempo me estoy dedicando a hacer joyas de fieltro. Son súper entretenidas de hacer, rápidas e ideales para esos días en que uno tiene ganas de hacer manualidades pero no tiene el tiempo que se necesita para hacer una bufanda de fieltro o cosas más grandes!

I've been making felt jewelry for a while. It's super fun and quick to make, so it's perfect for those days you feel like crafting something but don't have the time it takes to felt a scarf or other large things. 

Bufanda Nuno / Nuno scarf

Hacía un tiempo tenía guardada una gasa de algodón floreada muy bonita para afieltrarla, pero al final siempre terminaba dejándolo para otro día. Ayer (por fin!) me decidí a hacerlo, agarré mi lana merino ultra fina y me puse manos a la obra. Acababa de despejarse el sol y parecía el día perfecto... pero obviamente apenas me puse a trabajar las nubes decidieron volver, empezó a soplar viento y mi lana volaba por todos lados! Pero al final lo logré.

Como me gustaba mucho el estampado de la gasa no quería opacarlo con diseños en el fieltro, así que le puse sólo dos capas muy finas de merino ultra fina blanca por el revés, para que quedara más abrigada. Me encanta como quedó! 

Es abrigada pero suavecita y no es tiesa como muchas bufandas de fieltro. El único problema fue que quedó un poquito más corta de lo que me gustaría. Lección aprendida para la próxima bufanda.

This flowery cotton gauze had been laying around for a while now, waiting to be felted, so yesterday I finally decided to give it a try. I grabbed my super fine merino top and got started. It was a sunny day so I thought it was the perfect time to do it... but of course the clouds decided to come back as soon as I started laying the fibers and the wind started blowing, and white merino fleece was flying everywhere... but in the end it all went fine and I made it! 

Since I loved the design on the gauze I decided to keep it simple and not "hide" it with a felted design, so I only used two very thin layers of white super fine merino on the back of the fiber, to make the scarf warmer. I love how it turned out, super warm and cozy, and not stiff like many felt scarves I've seen. The only problem was that it shrank a bit more than I expected and ended up a little bit shorter than I would like. Lesson learned for the next scarf.

Nuno Felt

En diciembre tomé un curso de Nuno Felt en la fábrica de Anilinas Montblanc, que tiene una sala de ventas y unos talleres de fieltro, teñido y otras cosas súper entretenidos. Aprendimos a hacer una bufanda con gasa de algodón como base. Mi prima la vio y le encantó, y como se acaba de cambiar de casa me encargó un camino de mesa del mismo estilo, pero más grande y en otros colores... y así quedo:

Usé gasa de algodón que venden también en Montblanc, y la lana es una mezcla de Merino y Corriedale.

Ella todavía no lo ha visto, así que espero que le guste! Lamentablemente no tengo fotos del original aquí (está en mi casa en Santiago, y yo estoy de vacaciones), pero era muy parecido, sólo que más chico y en tonos morados.

Last december I took a class on Nuno Felting at a local store. We made scarves using Felter's Gauze as a base. My cousin saw my scarf and loved it, and as she had just moved to a new house she asked me to make a table runner for her, similar to the scarf but bigger and suing red, brown and beige as main colors for the design. Above is the picture of how it turned out! 

I also used Felter's Gauze for the fabric, and the wool is mostly Corriedale with some Merino. 

She hasn't seen it yet, so I hope she will like it! I sadly don't have any pics from the original scarf... I'm on vacation, and I left it at home, but it was basically the same, just smaller and in purple-lilac colors.

Hola a todos! / Hi everyone!

Hola a todos! 

Al fin me decidí a empezar este blog, en parte para ayudarme a mí misma a ordenar mis ideas (a veces un poco locas), además de integrarme un poco a la comunidad de fieltristas. Llevo haciendo fieltro unos tres o cuatro años, pero todavía hay un montón de técnicas nuevas que quiero probar y que voy a ir registrando aquí a medida que lo haga: eco-print, cobweb felt, fieltro texturado y una MUY larga lista de etcéteras que espero que el resto encuentre tan interesantes y entretenidas como yo!

Hi everyone!

 I've decided to keep this blog in spanish and in english, since many bloggers don't speak spanish and I would like to be a part of a wider community of felters and crafters. I finally got around starting this blog, and I hope it will help me keep my crazy mind better organized, as well as helping me learn from other felters and maybe even make some friends around here. I've been felting for three or four years now but there are still lots of techniques that I want to try: eco-printing on felt, cobweb felt, textured felt and a very long list of etceteras that I hope everyone else will find as interesting and fun as I do!
